Who are unaccompanied children?
Unaccompanied children are children aged from 6 to 12 years who are flying without their parents or guardians. Upon agreement, the airline may accept unaccompanied children up to 16 years of age on the flight.
Documents
In order to arrange for an unaccompanied child to travel, parents or guardians will need to sign the following documents: an unaccompanied child travel application and a declaration of responsibility.
To save time filling out the documents at the airport, you can download the documents and fill them out at home. You can also pick up the documents from the airline representative at the airport of departure. The documents must be completed in five copies.
Processing and payment
Unaccompanied children can travel only if the airline confirms the availability of the service. Book a ticket for an unaccompanied child through the airline's call centre at 8 (800) 350-99-77.
Book a flight for an unaccompanied child through the airline's Contact Centre:8 800 350 99 77 or in the agency where you purchased the ticket. The airline will need to confirm that it is ready to provide this service for the child to travel.
The cost of the service is 4 500 ₽ in addition to the cost of the child's ticket.
An unaccompanied child travels in a separate seat due to the chosen fare. Seats will be assigned to children in rows 2 to 5 to allow easy supervision by the flight crew.
At the airport of departure the transport agent or representative of the airline will receive the unaccompanied child, sign the declaration and will be personally responsible for the child until the child is handed over to the cabin crew under signature. The airline representative will be personally present at check-in for the unaccompanied child. During check-in, the child will be assigned a pre-booked seat with a special note.
The person escorting the child will remain at the airport until the actual departure of the aircraft.
The airline representative will notify the airport or the representative at the destination airport by telegram of the unaccompanied child on board, and inform the escorting and welcoming parties of the departure and arrival times of the aircraft at the destination.
In the event of an emergency, such as a delay or postponement of the flight, the child is the responsibility of the airline. In the event of a delay of four hours or more, the airline representative will contact the people accompanying the child and hand the child over to them for the duration of the delay.
On board the flight, the representative hands over the child to the senior purser with all documents: ticket, child identification document, transport application, copy of authorization, luggage tags. The senior purser signs for the child's acceptance on board.
A flight attendant will accompany the child throughout the flight and there can be a maximum of two unaccompanied children on the flight. During the flight, the senior purser or a designated flight attendant supervises and assists the child during the flight.
The accompanying documents are kept by the senior purser and then handed over to the meeting person.
Upon arrival, the child is handed over to the person meeting the child, as specified in the application. Until this time, the senior purser or designated flight attendant will accompany the child to the terminal building while going through all formal procedures at the airport. At the time of handing over the child, the person meeting the child signs the declaration.
The transfer procedure is as follows:
- Information at the airport terminal that the person meeting the child needs to come to the arrivals hall
- Checking the documents of the escorts to make sure they are the people on the application
- Handing over the child and their luggage to the meeters in person, with the paperwork to be signed
If the unaccompanied child is not met at the destination airport, the flight attendant will notify the airline representative and contact the person meeting the child by telephone to arrange for the child's handover. The child remains in the care of the senior purser or the designated responsible flight attendant until the meeting party picks up the child, but no later than twenty minutes before the plane's return flight time.
The airline representative does everything possible to find the meeters: phone calls and announcements at the airport station. If the meeters do not arrive at the airport and they cannot be found, the senior purser or designated flight attendant informs the agent of the airline Transportation Service, the captain of the aircraft, the accompanying person and the representative of the airline. The representative of the airline issues a return ticket for the child and informs the escort that the child has returned to the airport of departure.
The flight attendant returns with the child to the aircraft for departure to hand the child over to the airline representative and then to the escort at the point of departure.
All additional costs incurred by the airline company in connection with the search for a meeting person, the flight of the child and their luggage to the airport of initial departure are borne by the child's legal representatives. For payment, the company provides supporting documents: ticket, certificates, receipts, copies of receipts. If the stopover is longer than three hours, the airline provides for the unaccompanied child's rest at the airport (mother and child room, hotel, meal arrangements). A senior purser or designated responsible flight attendant will be with the unaccompanied child throughout the stopover.
